Always have these orange-cream cheese breakfast rolls in the freezer {freezing directions below} ready for a “special” breakfast.  When preparing a big meal sometimes breakfast gets pushed aside.  Here is an easy breakfast for Thanksgiving or Christmas mornings.  Take to your next brunch, serve on Mother’s Day or Easter!

Orange-Cream Cheese Breakfast Rolls

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 55 minutes

Yield: Serves 10

Serving Size: 1 Roll

Ingredients

    For the Breakfast Rolls:
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 5 tablespoons plus 1 tablespoon cream cheese, divided
  • 2 teaspoons orange peel
  • 12 ounce refrigerated Pillsbury flaky buttermilk biscuits
  • 5 tablespoons butter, melted
  • For the Drizzle:
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 5-6 teaspoons orange juice

Instructions

    For the Breakfast Rolls:
  1. Sprinkle pecans into a 8 or 9-inch round baking pan coated with non stick cooking spray; set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl combine 5 tablespoons of cream cheese and orange peel; set aside.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out biscuits into 4-inch circles.
  5. Spread 1 teaspoon of cheese mixture down the center of each circle.
  6. Bring dough from opposite sides over filling just until edges meet; pinch to seal.
  7. Brush with some of the butter; roll in sugar mixture.
  8. Place seam side down over pecans. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup of remaining sugar mixture; drizzle with remaining melted butter.
  9. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately invert onto a serving place.
  10. For the Drizzle:
  11. In a small bowl, combine the confectioners' sugar, orange juice and remaining cream cheese. Drizzle over rolls.
  12. Serve warm.
  13. For the Freezer:
  14. Roll out the biscuits and spread with filling.
  15. Brush on melted butter to seal edges as directed above.
  16. Place filled biscuits on a cookie sheet and freeze.
  17. Once frozen place in a zip top bag and keep frozen until ready to use.
  18. Defrost and continue with the making of the rolls starting at the beginning, just skip the rolling and filling of the biscuits.
