Easy Two Toned Crochet Mittens Pattern | Mittens are always a fun project! For this pattern I used two strands of different color yarn to get the two tone effect. Also, it makes them just a bit warmer. You could also use a category 5 yarn instead of the double strands.

This pattern is made in a kids size. The mittens fit both my 5 year old and my 7 year old, with some room to grow.

We live in the desert, so realistically we’re not quite ready for mittens yet. And this is about as close as we get to snow! HA!

Pattern Notes & Stitches to Know
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
sc blo – single crochet back loop only

Gauge:
5 sc = 2″
6 rows = 2″

ch 1 at the beginning of each round does not count as sc

The pattern starts with the band around the wrist

MITTENS (make 2)

Starting with your main color and a 4.0 mm hook

ch 11

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from the hook and across (10 sc)

Row 2 – 18: ch 1, turn, sc blo in each stitch across (10 sc blo)

Bring both ends of the band together and sc them together

Change to 6.0 mm hook and join with secondary color so you are working with both strands at the same time

Round 1: ch 1, sc in the end of each row around, join to first sc with sl st (18 sc)

Round 2 – 6: ch 1, sc in each stitch around, join to first sc with sl st (18 sc)

Round 7: ch 1, sc in 6 stitches, skip 6 stitches, sc in remaining 6 stitches, join to first sc with sl st (12 sc)

When skipping the 6 stitches make sure there isn’t a large space between stitch 6 and 7. The skipped stitches will become the thumb hole. Leave the space open for now, we’ll get back to it later.

Round 8 – 9: ch 1, sc in each stitch around, join to first sc with sl st (12 sc)

Round 10: ch 1, *sc in 2 stitches, sc2tog* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (9 sc)

Round 11 – 13: ch 1, sc in each stitch around, join to first sc with sl st (9 sc)

Round 14: ch 1, *sc, sc2tog* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (6 sc)

Fasten off, sew the top closed, weave in the ends

Join both colors at the thumbhole.

Round 1 – 3: ch 1, sc in each stitch around, join to first sc with sl st (6 sc)

Fasten off, sew the top closed, weave in the ends
