No one will ever know that these fun Semi Homemade Black and White Halloween Cupcakes started with a cake mix. Of course you can’t go wrong with homemade frosting! The frosting is just like bakery frosting easy to decorate with and doesn’t have to be refrigerated. Perfect for Halloween Parties!
Once the batter is separated (refer to the recipe) and one is colored black, add one tablespoon of black batter.
If you don’t have time to make frosting you can find icing from Wilton in the Halloween section of Target along with sugar sprinkles and a jar of assorted sprinkles.

Cut out a black circle larger then the print out and attach with white glue or double stick tape to the back of the printed circle. Tape or glue to a popsicle stick. To make the popsicle stick black, spray paint with Wilton Black Color Mist.
Semi Homemade Black and White Halloween Cupcakes
For the Cupcakes
- 1 (15.25 ounce) box white cake mix
- 4 large egg whites
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 1/4 cups water
- optional: white gel food color
- 2 tablespoons Dutch process cocoa powder
- black gel food color
- assorted black sprinkles

For the Semi Homemade Black and White Halloween Cupcakes:
Preheat oven to 350°. Line 18 muffin cups with paper liners; set aside. In a large mixing bowl add the cake mix, egg whites, oil and water. Mix until combined and there are no lumps. Divide batter into two medium bowls. One with 1 1/3 cups of batter and one with 2 2/3 cups of batter. To the 1 1/3 cups of batter add optional white gel food color. To the 2 2/3 cups of batter add the cocoa powder and black gel food color. Stir until combined.
To each lined muffin cup add 1 tablespoon of black batter. Now add a tablespoon of white batter topping each muffin cup with one last tablespoon of black batter into muffin cups, filling about two-thirds full. Bake 15 to 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes. Remove from pans, and let cool completely on wire racks. Pipe bakery white frosting onto tops of cupcakes, sprinkle with black sprinkles, top with cupcake toppers and spider.
