Crushed Peppermint Candy VS Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips
Choosing the right peppermint topping can completely change the flavor and texture of your peppermint bark. Whether you use crushed peppermint candy or Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips, each one brings something different to this festive 3-ingredient treat. Both options add delicious peppermint flavor, but the results aren’t the same. One delivers classic holiday crunch, while the other melts into a creamy, minty layer. Here’s how to decide which one is best for your peppermint bark (or why you might want to use both!).
CRUSHED PEPPERMINT CANDY
- Classic, bright red-and-white peppermint pieces
- Adds crunch, sparkle, and a traditional peppermint bark look
- Stronger, sharper mint flavor
- Gives that nostalgic “Christmas candy cane” texture
- Ideal for topping because it stays crisp
- Slightly messier, but the look is iconic
Use it when:
You want a classic peppermint bark appearance, extra crunch, festive color, and a bold peppermint flavor.
ANDES PEPPERMINT CRUNCH BAKING CHIPS
- Soft peppermint-flavored baking pieces
- Melt slightly into the white chocolate
- Softer, creamier texture
- Milder peppermint flavor
- Pinkish color tones (less bright than candy cane pieces)
- Adds peppermint flavor without the hard crunch
Use it when:
You want a smoother texture, a creamier bite, a mild peppermint flavor, and less crunchy bark.
WHICH SHOULD I USE FOR THIS RECIPE?

Because this bark has a chocolate graham cracker base, both options work beautifully, but for different reasons:
- Crushed peppermint candy adds extra crunch to balance the crisp graham crackers.
- Andes Peppermint Crunch chips melt slightly into the white chocolate for a smoother, softer finish with a little crunch.

Storage & Make-Ahead Tips
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
- Avoid refrigerating unless your home is very warm, as the cold can cause the chocolate to bloom.
- Freeze for up to 3 months. Let thaw uncovered to prevent condensation.
This is a perfect make-ahead candy for busy holiday baking schedules.
Fun Ways to Use Your Peppermint Bark
Besides snacking (which is inevitable!), try:
- Chopping and mixing into ice cream
- Sprinkling over brownies
- Topping hot cocoa or mocha drinks
- Adding to holiday dessert boards
- Crumbling over frosted sugar cookie bars
Your readers love these extra ideas. Feel free to cross-link to your dessert boards or hot cocoa recipes.
Recipe Alternatives
- DARK CHOCOLATE PEPPERMINT BARK: Swap the white chocolate for melted dark chocolate or semisweet chocolate. The richer flavor pairs beautifully with the peppermint and barks a more traditional look.
- MILK CHOCOLATE PEPPERMINT BARK: Use milk chocolate melts instead of white chocolate for a sweeter, creamier version. Perfect for kids or anyone who prefers a softer mint-chocolate flavor.
- SWIRLED PEPPERMINT BARK: Pour half white chocolate and half dark chocolate over the graham crackers, then swirl together with a toothpick. Beautiful for gifting and adds a bakery-style presentation.
- PEPPERMINT OREO BARK: Replace the chocolate graham crackers with a single layer of Oreo cookies. The crème filling melts slightly under the warm chocolate, fun, festive, and extra indulgent.
- PRETZEL PEPPERMINT BARK: Swap the graham crackers for mini pretzels. The sweet-and-salty combination is irresistible and perfect for holiday snack boards.
- PEPPERMINT CHIP BARK: Use white chocolate chips mixed with mini chocolate chips for a cookies-and-cream style bark with a chilly peppermint finish.
- HOT COCOA PEPPERMINT BARK: Layer mini marshmallows on top before the chocolate sets. Serve with hot cocoa or package with cocoa mix for a cute holiday gift set.
- NUTTY PEPPERMINT BARK: Add chopped almonds, pecans, pistachios, or cashews on top before the chocolate hardens. Creates a more textured, grown-up version.
- DOUBLE PEPPERMINT BARK: Use both Andes Peppermint Crunch chips and crushed peppermint candy. The chips melt into the chocolate while the candy stays crisp, the best of both worlds!
Options for Replacing the Chocolate Graham Crackers
- REGULAR HONEY GRAHAM CRACKERS: A simple swap that still gives you that classic bark-style crunch. The honey flavor adds a warm sweetness that pairs beautifully with peppermint and white chocolate.
- CHOCOLATE SANDWICH COOKIES: (like Oreos): Split them or leave them whole; either way, they create a rich, indulgent base. The frosting softens slightly under the warm chocolate for a cookies-and-cream peppermint bark.
- PRETZELS OR PRETZEL THINS: Perfect for a sweet-and-salty twist! Pretzel thins give a clean, even base, while mini pretzels add fun texture and shape.
- VANILLA WAFERS: A mild, buttery flavor that lets the peppermint shine. Great for a softer, nostalgic holiday bark.
- SHORTBREAD COOKIES: Firm, buttery, and delicious under white chocolate. This option elevates the bark to a more “bakery-style” treat with minimal effort.
- CHOCOLATE RICE CAKES: Surprisingly delicious, light, crunchy, and not too sweet. A great lower-sugar base that still feels festive.
- BISCOTTI OR COOKIE RUSK SLICES: For a crunchier, grown-up holiday treat. The crisp texture holds up beautifully under the chocolate.
- GLUTEN-FREE GRAHAM CRACKERS: A simple 1-to-1 swap for anyone who needs a gluten-friendly option. They behave exactly like regular graham crackers and taste fantastic with peppermint.
- MINI CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES: Fun, festive, and kid-approved! Line them tightly together and cover with white chocolate for a playful holiday spin.
- SALTINE CRACKERS: For a salty-sweet twist similar to Christmas cracker toffee, only no caramel layer needed! The saltines balance the peppermint and white chocolate beautifully.

3-Ingredient Peppermint Bark with a Twist
Ingredients
- 12 whole or 24 halves of chocolate graham crackers
- 1 pound white chocolate chips ( I used Ghirardelli)
- 2 cup Andes peppermint crunch baking chips (found at Target)
Instructions
- Line a 10x15-inch baking pan with wax paper or parchment paper.
- Lay the graham crackers in uniform fashion on top of the paper.
- Pour white chocolate chips into a medium microwave-safe bowl.
- Heat for 1 minute, stir until melted. If the candy is not melted, heat for an additional 30 seconds.
- Pour melted candy over the graham crackers. Use an offset spatula to spread the white chocolate evenly over the crackers, including the edges.
- While the chocolate is still melted, sprinkle on the crunch baking chips.
- Lightly press the peppermint chips into the white chocolate.
- Set aside to harden. Break into pieces. (Makes a little over 2 pounds) Store in an airtight container.
3-INGREDIENT PEPPERMINT BARK FAQ’S
Yes! Regular honey graham crackers work perfectly and add a warm sweetness that pairs beautifully with the peppermint. The chocolate grahams add a deeper cocoa flavor.
Yes, you can add peppermint extract, but you genuinely don’t need it. The crushed peppermint candy (or Andes Peppermint Crunch chips) provides plenty of mint flavor on its own. If you’d like a more pungent peppermint taste, add just a minimal amount, about ⅛ teaspoon. Peppermint extract is potent, and using too much can cause the chocolate to seize or give the bark a medicinal aftertaste. A tiny splash goes a long way!
Crushed peppermint candy gives a classic crunch and the signature red-and-white holiday sparkle. Andes Peppermint Crunch chips melt slightly into the chocolate for a creamier, softer peppermint flavor. You can use one or both!
Absolutely. Almond bark, white candy melts, or white baking wafers melt smoothly and set quickly, making them great for peppermint bark. But… remember, the depth of flavor will be missing from the candy you get when using a good white chocolate.
Store the bark in an airtight container at room temperature, not the fridge. Moisture from the refrigerator can cause peppermint pieces to soften and become tacky.
Yes! Freeze up to 3 months in a freezer-safe container. For the best texture, thaw at room temperature uncovered to prevent condensation from softening the peppermint. TIP: I wouldn’t recommend freezing the bark with peppermint candy on the top. The candy can become liquid and runny. Using the Andes Peppermint Crunch Chips would work best.
Yes! Top it with sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, nuts, or crushed holiday cookies for a fun non-peppermint version.
Definitely, this is one of the easiest Christmas candies for kids. They can arrange the graham crackers, sprinkle the toppings, and help break the bark into pieces.
White chocolate overheats easily. Melt it in short intervals, stirring often. If it does seize, adding a small amount of shortening can sometimes bring it back.
About 2 weeks at room temperature in an airtight container. Please keep it away from direct heat and humidity.

Hi sheryl, do you line your baking pan with partchment paper for the peppermint bark candy?
